Charlie Sdraulig

Charlie Sdraulig's music explores interaction that examines the roles of physicality and perception in human performance. This exploration often takes place at the threshold of audibility. The inherent ambiguity of this context may allow a particular expression of human individuality to emerge.

His music has been performed by Zubin Kanga (Australia), Distractfold (UK), Max Murray (Canada), [nullpoint] (USA), mmm... (Japan), Federico Costanza and Lucia D'Errico at the Contemporanea Festival in Udine (Italy), Ensemble Platypus at the 'Composer’s Marathon V – Festival for young contemporary music' at the Wiener Konzerthaus (Austria), Apartment House at King's Place (UK), Ensemble SurPlus at Schloss Solitude (Germany), the Quiet Music Ensemble at Sonic Vigil 7 in Cork (Ireland), Duo H|A (Australia/Netherlands), the Shoals Duo at Pavia 2000 (UK/Italy), the Mercury Quartet as part of their RADAR series in residency at the Forge in Camden (UK), the dissonArt ensemble conducted by Beat Furrer at Music Village 2011 in Agios Lavrendios, Mount Pelion (Greece), Heather Roche (Canada/Germany) and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as part of the Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers Program for 2009–10 (Australia) amongst others.

He is currently a graduate fellow at Stanford University, where he is working towards a doctorate (DMA) in composition. He has previously completed a Master of Music in Composition with Distinction at the Royal College of Music (London, UK), as well as Bachelors of Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne (Australia). In August 2013 he was a fellow at the Schloss Solitude Summer Academy in Stuttgart, Germany. He has also received tuition from Pierluigi Billone in Masterclass settings in both Venice and Milan.

In addition to his work as a composer, Charlie Sdraulig is also a performer, accompanist and teacher.
